Ford Kuga

For the Ford Kuga think 4×4 Ford Focus, for that is essentially what it is. It is a car that seems unable to quite decide whether an off-road workhorse is or a sporty little car. To some extent it is neither of these, but then again perhaps it is both. It is not a real off-roader, but the 4 wheel drive means that it is able to tackle to quite uneven terrain in comfort, and it also has a fair amount of zip. It is quite a popular car amongst the boat towing community.

Although the styling of the Kuga is distinguished, by no imagination could you consider it to be a pretty car. There is something about its styling that gives the impression that things don’t quite match up; it seems to have been created using bits of other cars rather than designed from the bottom up.

The most popular version is the 2 litre diesel which delivers 136 bhp. This gives a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of 10.5 seconds whilst returning a quite acceptable 46 mpg. There is also a turbocharged 2.5 litre petrol engine which develops 200 bhp and will do the 0 to 32 mph dash in 8.2 seconds, though it delivers a fairly uneconomical 29 mpg.

The handling of the Kuga is comparable to that of the Focus, so if you have driven a fast focus you will know how nice it feels when pushed very hard on bendy roads. Add to that the 4 wheel drive capability and you will have no complaints regarding the handling.

Comfort levels are high for both the driver and passengers. It is one of those cars that you can drive all day and at your journeys end still feel quite refreshed. One area that you might find a little disappointing is the luggage carrying capacity which is a little less than the focus. You can compare both models and more on motors.co.uk, a great place for all your car enquiries.
